A neck injury caused by a sudden hyperextension, forcing neck muscles and ligaments beyond a normal range of motion and stretching or tearing some muscles, tendons and ligaments. Whiplash injuries can be mild or severe.

Whiplash frequently results from being struck from behind in an auto accident. Other causes can include sports injuries or other blows to the head or any sudden trauma, such as a slip and fall, which causes hyperextension of the neck.

Symptoms of whiplash may include:

• Neck pain and stiffness
• Headaches
• Dizziness
• Blurred vision
• Fatigue
• Difficulty concentrating
• Memory problems
• Ringing in the ears
• Sleep disturbances
